I have running shoes for the gym, but otherwise I generally wear “real” shoes. My summertime, non-work-day selection is usually limited to ballet flats, boat shoes, and wedge sandals. But for years I’ve wanted a pair of casual, basic, every day sneakers. Something to wear with jeans to a ballgame.
I own a pair of black Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars:
They…do not work for me. I really should face facts and just donate them, because I have worn them maybe five times and each time I regret it. They make my feet look very long/large (I wear a 7.5). The laces always loosen and require retying after approximately twenty minutes of wear. The thick rubber soles feel very heavy and clunky. And they have no arch support, which is true of most of my shoes but not a thing I usually notice. So Converse: not for me.
At least, that was what I thought until I discovered these low-profile Converse.
The full, slightly ridiculous name is Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Dainty Oxford. The description leads me to believe these would be lighter and less clunky, but I still think Converse shoes are likely too long and narrow for my feet.
I’ve been eying Bensimon for awhile now, thinking I might prefer the French take on the sneaker. This is the Tennis Lacet in Marine:
Very cute, and according to reviews, softer and lighter than Chucks. These come in approximately one million colors, including very pretty rose pinks and aqua blues. Even polka dots!
While browsing on the Bensimon site, I stumbled across a laceless slip-on version as well. This is the Tennis Elastique, in Midnight:
So: sneaker, or sneaker/ballet flat hybrid? Decisions, decisions.
